Multifractal analysis beyond the Markov case

Joint work with Michal Rams. For an expanding Markov interval map and a continuous function the multifractal analysis of Birkhoff averages is well understood. We will look at extending these results to interval maps which may be neither uniformly expanding or Markov. We will look to what extent the results from the Markov case still hold in this setting, in particular the continuity properties of the spectrum. The main tool we will use is the thermodynamic formalism developed for these types of maps by Hofbauer.
