Recovering a Radiative Source From Partial Data

We consider the problem of recovering an unknown radiative source within a medium where scattering and absorption occur according to the radiative transfer equation. With only partial knowledge of the boundary intensity operator and smooth absorption and scattering coefficients, it turns out that the associated normal operator is a classical pseudo differential operator of order -1. From here, one can use microlocal techniques to recover part of the wavefront set of the source. We will discuss this as well as a numerical approach to provide results that illustrate the theory.
