The relationship between Interaction Energy minimizers and the Obstacle Problem

Motivated by swarming models, we analyse local minimizers to the Interaction Energy. Using classical results of potential theory, we show a surprising relationship between local minimizers of the Interaction Energy and solutions to Obstacle Problems. Exploiting this relationship we derive the best known regularity results for local minimizers.
