Practical information for participants

Please note
  • Important information from the scientific leaders and the staff will come through your Institute e-mail. PLEASE create your own forward, if you plan not to use your Institute e-mail. With your computer account at Institut Mittag-Leffler you will be given an e-mail address which will be: username@mittag-leffler.se. For information on how to make the forward, please check http://www.mittag-leffler.se/info/technical/computers/sunray/email.php or ask the system administrator.

  • An alarm will go off if someone is detected moving within the Institute's main building, when it is closed. Transgressors will be charged the cost of a false alarm.

  • Smoking is strictly forbidden in the main building as well as in the apartments.

  • Please close your office window before you leave in the evening.

  • Please use indoor shoes in the main building as well as in your apartment.

  • Many pieces of furniture in the main building are old and fragile. Please be careful when using them and never put a cup or a glass on the tables/office desks without a coaster. You will find a box with coasters on each floor.

  • If you intend to let family members or "significant others" stay over night at the Institute, please ALWAYS inform Inger Halvarsson in advance. It is not allowed to let others stay over night in the Institute apartments. This is utterly important for us to know of and for the comfort of any other guests in the apartment.

  • Please inform Inger Halvarsson of your departure date as soon as possible after arrival. This is to avoid problems for incoming participants and for the housing schedule.

Mail

Incoming mail will be distributed to the desk in your office. If somebody in your family has a different family name, please inform Inger Halvarsson and she will put the mail for that person on your office desk.

Letters concerning the scientific activities of the Institute can be left in the letter box in the secretarial office. They will be stamped and mailed for you. Private letters can also be left in the letter box, but you have to pay the postage yourself. You can buy stamps in the SOS-Kiosk at Djurholms torg.

If you wish to return your own papers by mail before leaving the Institute, we can help you to send them but you have to pay the postage yourself.

Fax

Incoming faxes will be distributed to the desk in your office.

The fax machine is located in the secretarial office, and can be used only during office hours.

Kitchen in the main building

At your disposal for coffee and tea breaks. Everything is at cost price and we practice self-service, therefore please wash your own cups and dishes, and try to keep the kitchen nice and clean. Try to use only one coffee cup or tea mug, since our supply is limited.

Microwave ovens are available.

The stove should not be used for cooking, since the kitchen is not efficiently ventilated.

Food stores

There is a food store at Djursholms torg, 300 m from the Institute: Coop-Konsum as well as a bakery, Gateau.

At Stockholmsvägen 119 (5 minutes walk from the Institute) you will find "Djursholms Delikatesser", selling deli food for take-away or to eat in the shop.

Restaurants

Djursholms Värdshus (at the end of Djursholms torg, across the traffic circle) is open Tuesday-Friday, 11:00-14:00 and 17:00-21:00. You will also find a fish restaurant/shop "Monrads", a Greek grill restaurant, a sushi bar and a hamburger bar at Djursholms torg.

Going to Stockholm

Either:
  • walk to Djursholms torg and take any bus from there to Mörby Centrum, from where you take the subway (T-bana) or
  • walk to the train stop Vendevägen (1000 meters if you go downhill to the left outside the gates and turn left on Vendevägen) from where the trains (Roslagsbanan) leave approximately every half hour.
  • Timetables for public transport in Stockholm (in English)
It is not possible to buy a ticket on the bus. Either you buy a ticket in the SOS-kiosk opposite the bus stop or from the ticket machine at the bus stop at Djursholms torg. With this ticket you can travel for an hour with the local bus/subway/train system in the Stockholm area. If you plan to go to Stockholm a couple of times during your stay it is cheaper to buy a slip of 16 coupons at the SOS-kiosk.

What's on in Stockholm

The monthly guide "What's on" is available on the table in the lounge.

Postcards, maps & mugs

Postcards of the Institute, maps of Danderyd and Stockholm, and mugs with logotype are for sale at the secretarial office.

Bicycles

You are welcome to borrow a bicycle (except in the winter season, November-March). Please sign the list in the window sill just inside the front door before you take a bike. The keys are to be found in the plastic bowl just beside the list. You will find the bikes in the old coal cellar of the main building, just around the corner to your right, inside the iron gates (please ask the staff for help).

If you have a problem or if something is broken or missing on the bike, please inform the caretaker.

Return the bike and the key when you have finished your tour, please!

Schools and day-care centers

For families with children staying for at least one semester it might be possible to arrange with school attendance. Please contact Inger Halvarsson as early as possible for more information and help with finding a school in Danderyd or Stockholm.

To have your child at a day-care center is normally not possible for people other than those paying taxes in Sweden. However, there is a day-care center with English speaking staff in Djursholm, where it is sometimes possible to leave a child for a couple of hours/day, but only if you stay for at least one semester. Please contact Inger Halvarsson for further information.

NOTE: The Institute cannot cover any school or day-care fees.
