Branching Problems for Reductive Groups

May 16 - May 20, 2016

This meeting will focus on the interplay between representation theory and subgroup structure in the context of reductive groups (both finite and algebraic). Branching laws describe the decomposition of an irreducible representation upon restriction to subgroups – they play an important role in the study of maximal subgroups of simple groups, with significant applications in many other areas of mathematics. The aim of the meeting is to stimulate further research in this area, promoting new directions and future collaborations.
