Universality in probability and mathematical physics
May 24 - May 28, 2027
On the occasion of the centennial of the passing of Gösta Mittag-Leffler, this conference will gather top level researchers who in a broad sense work in random geometry, random matrix theory, and related areas.
In recent years, random geometry and random matrix theory have driven spectacular breakthroughs across mathematics and mathematical physics. This includes universality results for random matrices, scaling limits of random planar maps, the theory of Liouville quantum gravity, Schramm–Loewner evolutions, and probabilistic approaches to conformal field theory. These stories connect in various ways probability with analysis, geometry, algebra and physics. For example, random matrices capture universal spectral features of quantum systems, coulomb gases link probability to potential theory and geometric function theory, random conformal geometry brings together stochastic analysis, Gaussian fields and Loewner theory, and random tilings and determinantal processes encode rich algebraic and geometric structure.
The conference aims to bring these communities together to survey recent progress and explore new directions.
