Abstract
I will describe joint work with Fanny Augeri where we obtain the centering constant for the maximum, on the support of the semicircle law, of the characteristic polynomial of the \(G\betaE\). The approach uses the Dumitriu-Edelman representation. I will try to explain where the approach fails in yielding a limiting law as in the case of the \(C\betaE\).
