Abstract
I will describe joint work with Fanny Augeri where we obtain the centering constant for the maximum, on the support of the semicircle law, of the characteristic polynomial of the \(G$\beta$E\). The approach uses the Dumitriu-Edelman representation. I will try to explain where the approach fails in yielding a limiting law as in the case of the \(C$\beta$E\).
