Abstract
The Initial boundary value problem for the Einstein equations was first addressed by Helmut Friedrich, in 1995 in the case of the Einstein equations with negative cosmological constant and a conformal boundary at infinity, followed by the joint work with Gabriel Nagy in 1999 addressing the case of a finite boundary. I will review these works and the problem in general, emphasising the various difficulties and the originalities in the approach taken in the above two fundamental works, as well as more recent ones. In a second part of the talk, I will present some recent results concerning the asymptotically Anti-de-Sitter case.
