Abstract
I will discuss recent developments in the use of surface sums in Yang-Mills gauge theory, including the various expansions that (essentially) convert random matrix problems into random surface problems. I will also discuss a new overview of fractional Gaussian free fields and gauge theory (joint work with Sky Cao) and the quest for off-critical non-Gaussian limits.
